Hawaii Mauka Oolong Tea
PDF Print E-mail

Creates a cup of pale green tea with hints of papaya, tropical evergreens, Kahili ginger flowers and nectar. Grown and hand processed in Hawaii, this oolong’s flavor profile is a unique experience. The leaves are young and full with slightly oxidized edges.

Origin: Hawaii Island, Hawaii, USA

In Hawaii, tea is grown and processed on a small scale by tea artists. The climate and the soil of Hawaii actually contributes to experience when you cup this tea. The tea plant (Camelia sinensis) was reintroduced in 2001 in Hawaii, so Hawaii grown tea is still in an experimental state. However, there are certain aspects that are making Hawaiian tea stand out.

Hawaii tea plants are grown at approximately 4,000 feet, offering plantation owners the possibility to grow an organic tea and high elevation tea. At such altitudes pests that could affect the tea plant are not such a great concern, so pesticides are not needed. Planting, processing and cultivating the tea plant is all done by hand.

This offers the Hawaiian tea a great advantage, as tea that is processed by machines is known to have a lower quality. And it brings back the tea experience that has been lost over the past 50 years world wide. Finding small farms that process tea by hand is rare. Also, this is a 100% US grown and processed tea. 3 grams makes a cup.
