Farm Fresh Huoshan Yellow Bud Tea
PDF Print E-mail

We just received a fresh batch of TOP #1 GRADE (bud and two leaf), hand cultivated 2010 Huoshan Yellow Bud Tea from our good friend, Ms.VeeVee Zhang. This yellow/green tea was grown in the tea gardens on the high mountains of the Da Hua Ping area, in Huoshan County, Liu An City, in the Anhui Province. The tea garden been using the same ancient tea cultivars 金鸡/Golden Chick and 霍山早/Huoshan Morning used in these tea gardens since as early as 91 B.C..

This rare tea was imperial tribute tea in the Tang, Ming and Qing Dynasty. The processing method was said to be lost and only to be re-discovered after the 70s, since then, it has been sent as tribute tea to China National Departments every year.

The aroma of the dry leaf is gentle with a hint of sweet hay and the liquor has a soft, fresh sappy aroma of great charm, with a warm toasty edge and a delicate vegetal taste that lingers on the tongue. This is the best of the harvest, which produces a slightly more refined, lighter liquor, yet retaining the characteristics of a green tea.

Legendary Sleeping Beauty Tea Gardens

Every year during the Grain Rain Term, among the towering mountains of Huoshan County, there flying a kind of bird, crying “Yang Guilu! Yang Guilu! ...” day and night, unceasingly, pathetically.

It is said that long long ago, a tea merchant named Yang Guilu, came to Huoshan to purchase Huoshan Huangya Tea, but unfortunately died there of a sudden heart attack.

His mild wife was looking forward to his return all the while, languished day by day, then endless missing made her decide to set out looking for her beloved husband, with their baby in her venter. After a long tough journey, eventually she reached Huoshan. Once she heard of her husband`s death, determined to spend her left lifetime there. She became calm, strong and brave. Afterwards she gave birth to twins, a baby boy and a girl, and took good care of them with neighbors` help. They bought some lands to grow tea which is the main local produce, kept on learning, finally were recognized most professional tea experts from novices. They improved on the manufacture method of Huoshan Huangya Tea through abundant experiments and carried forward all over Huoshan. Mother died 40 years later not remarrying, turned into the Sleeping Beauty Mountain, laying on that land together with her husband forever.
